Introduction

The Master's degree program Informatics qualifies graduates for the development of top-quality computer-assisted solutions to problems, for the efficient and effective management of the problem-solving process, and for the design of the beneficial utilization of solutions, based on methods and techniques from Informatics. Students acquire sound knowledge and expertise in the field of Informatics as well as possible areas of application and gain a comprehensive understanding of economic interrelations.

In the field of Computer Science, the University of Klagenfurt achieved a third-place among Austrian universities in the 201-250 range in the THE World University Rankings 2020.

Design Improvement and Innovation Processes

The field of Informatics is characterized by highly dynamic development. It is, therefore, a further aim of the degree program to convey competencies to ensure that – on the one hand – graduates can actively contribute to this process of improvement and innovation, and that they are also able – on the other hand – to update their knowledge in an autonomous and timely manner. Consequently, the focus of the Informatics Master’s degree in Klagenfurt is on conveying detailed knowledge about the fundamental concepts, interrelations, and insights gained in the field as well as its methods and tools. In addition, students are taught personal and leadership skills, they gain practical and research experience and develop expertise in solving problems.

Study objectives

Graduates of the Master’s degree program in Informatics are experts in their specialist field with a comprehensive background in Informatics. They are qualified to manage complex software development projects, to define novel problem solutions, and to develop the concepts, methods, and tools of Informatics or one of the areas of application in a focused manner. They are distinguished by their high degree of independence and superior problem-solving skills. In particular, they are skilled at adapting to and mastering technical paradigm shifts. Furthermore, following three years of relevant professional activity and the successful completion of the Civil Engineer examination, graduates of the Master’s degree program are entitled to work as chartered civil engineers in the field of Informatics.

Prerequisites

Bachelor’s degree program in Applied Informatics or a degree program of equivalent academic value at another post-secondary educational institution. Depending on your previous degree, you may need to take additional exams.

Campus and student life

There’s more to student life than lectures and exams. The University of Klagenfurt is located in western Klagenfurt, close to Lake Wörthersee. The university is one of the few campus universities in Austria and enjoys excellent transport links with Klagenfurt city center. There are also a large number of restaurants and housing options in the area surrounding the campus. Since 2007, the campus has also been home to Austria’s most contemporary University Sports Institute (USI), which has an area of 1156 m² available for sporting activities. The USI offers a wide range of sports on campus, as well as a variety of sports camps all across Europe.
