Introduction

Join world-leading experts, including practising archaeologists and historians. You’ll study from the Minoan and Mycenean period, up to classical Greece, Republican Rome and early Christianity.
Our broad remit at Kent means you are free to turn your passions into expertise and make your degree your own. This course offers a pathway in archaeology leading to a degree in Classical Studies with Archaeology. It allows you to develop wide and in-depth skills, training, and knowledge of archaeology.

Curriculum
Stage 2
You take all compulsory modules and then select three optional modules. If you are pursuing the Classical Studies with Archaeology pathway, these must include one of any of the following: Fieldwork Practice, Museum Studies, Greek and Roman Art & Architecture, Everyday Life in the Roman Empire, Rome to Byzantium: The World of Late Antiquity.
The compulsory Engagement Project requires you to choose an Archaeological / Heritage project relevant to your pathway.

Year in industry
The year in industry takes place between your second and final year. It is a great opportunity to gain workplace experience, increase your professional contacts and acquire new skills, and is a valuable addition to your CV.
You can take the year in industry in the UK or abroad with a wide range of employers in areas including the arts, education and cultural heritage. While you are responsible for finding your placement, we offer support and guidance through the application process.
Tuition fees for the placement year are greatly reduced and employers may offer expenses or a salary.
The year in industry is assessed on a pass/fail basis and does not count towards your final degree classification.
Year abroad
This course offers a year abroad option to allow you to immerse yourself in the cultures and societies of another country. This international perspective expands your understanding of the subject, improves communication skills, and creates a flexible outlook to succeed in new environments.
You apply to add a Year Abroad to your degree programme from your arrival at Kent until the autumn term of your second year. The Year Abroad takes place between Stages 2 and 3 at one of our partner universities. Places and destinations are subject to availability, language and degree programme. Stage 3
You take all compulsory modules and then select four optional modules. If you are pursuing the Classical Studies with Archaeology pathway, these must include two of any of the following: Advanced Topics in Archaeology, Professional Archaeology: Techniques and Methods, Heritage Studies, Constantinople and the late Antique City, Roman Britain, Gods, Heroes and Mystery Cults: Religion in Ancient Greece, Barbarians in the West.

For a student studying full-time, each academic year of the program will comprise 1200 learning hours which include both direct contact hours and private study hours. The precise breakdown of hours will be subject-dependent and will vary according to modules.
