About: The PGDip in Accounting Science at the University of Johannesburg equips students with knowledge, skills and competence in accounting, auditing, financial management and taxation. It aligns with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) competency framework and curriculum. Graduates may register for SAICA’s Initial Test of Competence to progress to Chartered Accountant status. Career Outcomes: Graduates can pursue roles in practice or industry including chartered accountant, auditor, financial manager and tax consultant, working in accounting firms, corporate finance, public sector and advisory services.

The purpose of the PGDip in Accounting Science is to provide knowledge, skills, and applied competence in the fields of Accounting, Auditing, Financial Management, and Taxation to students who plan to qualify as Chartered Accountants so that they will meet the requirements as determined by the accounting profession.

The qualification is aligned with the competency framework and curriculum requirements of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). Students who qualify with the PGDip (Accounting Science) will be allowed to register for SAICA’s Initial Test of Competence Exam to qualify as a Chartered Accountant. The program provides students with the required skills and technical competence to be employed as professionals in the areas of Accounting, Auditing, Financial Management, and Taxation.
