About: The LLM in Tax Law at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) tackles rising complexity in tax legislation, anti-avoidance measures, and expanded tax provisions affecting transactions. UJ offers First Year and Senior Student Experience, sports and gyms on four campuses, 178 internationally respected qualifications, a Missing Middle Campaign (over R300 million raised since 2016; meals for 6,000 students), health and protection services, and a research record.

Career Outcomes: Graduates can work in tax practice, tax consultancy, corporate tax compliance, tax litigation, in-house tax advisory, including accounting, finance, revenue authorities, and international tax advisory, applying tax law, compliance, and policy skills.

Tax laws have become increasingly complex in the last century. More and more anti-avoidance measures have recently been introduced to curb the effectiveness of tax avoidance structures, thus increasing the volumes of tax provisions applicable to day-to-day commercial transactions. The Master’s in Tax Law is a structured qualification intended to provide candidates with an in-depth understanding of the tax code as well as developing tax laws in South Africa and in the international community.
