About: The BA Hons in English at the University of Johannesburg studies literary theory and English-language literature from Britain, the US, the Indian subcontinent and Africa, from the Middle Ages to the present. You can write a research essay and choose optional modules such as life-writing, science fiction and text editing.

Career Outcomes: Graduates move into roles in teaching, publishing and editing, journalism and media, communications and public relations, digital content and copywriting, and NGOs or cultural organizations. You’ll develop critical analysis, research, academic writing, editing and cultural literacy, skills suited to policy, marketing and further postgraduate study and practice.

This course comprises the study of literary theory and the literature in English from Britain, America, the Indian subcontinent, and Africa. Periods covered range from the Middle Ages until the present day. Students may pursue individual interests in the course of writing a research essay. Optional modules in specialist topics such as life-writing, science fiction, and text editing may also be available.
