The Corporate Law, Commercial Law & Trade concentration offers a directed, optional program of study for LL.M. students. Students have the opportunity to receive specialized training in the field and select the classes that are most relevant to their areas of expertise. A concentration designation will appear on the transcript, giving students a competitive advantage in the legal employment market. Students retain the ability to elect a few courses outside of their concentration in other areas of interest or to prepare for the bar exam.

To earn the concentration, students must complete a course in Business Associations in addition to ten credit hours in classes of their choice within the concentration. Students may add a wide array of courses, such as Bankruptcy, International Business Transactions, Income Tax, Secured Transactions, Real Estate Law, Antitrust, Mergers & Acquisitions, and many more.

The Illinois LLM - Corporate Law, Commercial Law & Trade Concentration program is designed to prepare students with or without any prior legal training to excel in their professional careers. Foreign-educated students in the LLM - Corporate Law, Commercial Law & Trade Concentration program are introduced to the U.S. legal system and provided the opportunity to specialize in their own area of academic or professional interest. U.S.-trained lawyers can also enhance their legal expertise to meet their professional and career goals in the LLM - Corporate Law, Commercial Law & Trade Concentration program.

The Graduate College admission requirements and English language proficiency requirements apply. In addition for the LL.M. program, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) requirement is 79 internet-based. Students are not required to take the general Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Students are admitted on an individual basis according to a review of their prior accomplishments with an emphasis on academic achievement. Admission is generally made for the fall semester only.

Applicants must have earned at least a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college in the United States or a comparable degree from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad. A grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (A=4.0), or comparable GPA for an international applicant, for the last two years of undergraduate study, is a minimum requirement for admission. If your undergraduate study is longer than 4 years, additional semesters may be used to calculate the admission GPA. Please note that proposed programs of study may require a higher GPA than the Graduate College's minimum standard.

Applicants enrolled in the final year of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college in the United States or a comparable degree program from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad, and who meet the GPA requirements stated above will be admitted conditionally pending receipt of final academic credentials showing the undergraduate degree as conferred.

International applicants must meet minimum requirements based on their country of origin. Please note that proposed programs of study may require a higher GPA than the Graduate College's minimum standard.

Applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit proof of English proficiency with an acceptable TOEFL IELTS or Duolingo score or by qualifying for an English proficiency waiver.

All international degree-seeking applicants are required to submit the results of the TOEFL IELTS or Duolingo as evidence of English proficiency unless they qualify for an exemption. Official scores are required to be submitted directly from the testing agency. All scores must be dated within two years of the beginning of the proposed admission term.
