This distance-learning MSc offers a conversion route into data science and applied AI for students from any undergraduate background. The curriculum develops fundamental skills (statistics, predictive analytics, data mining) and advanced capabilities (machine learning, computer vision, NLP, large language models, big data systems, and interactive visualisation) with practical programming experience (Python, SAS, MATLAB). A substantial Individual Project allows in-depth exploration of a data/AI challenge. The course supports progression towards SAS certification and will be submitted for accreditation by the British Computer Society (BCS) with accreditation expected by the end of 2027. Taught fully online with multiple annual start dates, it is designed to be studied part-time while working.
The programme is delivered as a set of core modules covering data visualisation, applied AI, machine learning, advanced data mining, applied statistics and predictive analytics, big data and advanced databases, and an Individual Project that integrates and applies learning. Modules are practical and applied, using industry tools; credits per module can range from 15 to 60. The course supports SAS certification and uses case studies and projects to develop employability skills.
