The University of Huddersfield is a multi-award-winning, modern university with world-class facilities in a multicultural and thriving town. Huddersfield’s culturally diverse student community brings in a global perspective, thereby enriching the university experience. Huddersfield offers a comprehensive selection of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, spanning a wide range of subject areas.

It has dedicated a lot of time and resources in recent years to provide a superb quality of tuition, which is recognised at an international level. Teaching awards include first in the country for National Teaching Fellowships and one of only 13 UK Universities to be awarded TEF Gold rating, the highest accolade attainable, in all three aspects of the Office for Students’ latest Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). Notably, the University secured a Gold rating in both critical categories of student experience and student outcomes, reflecting its unwavering commitment to providing an exceptional student experience and fostering excellent student outcomes. Huddersfield is among the top 20 universities in the UK for industry placements.

Huddersfield’s postgraduate courses are closely linked to business, and many of them are professionally accredited, which helps increase the employability of the university’s graduates. International students can apply directly to the University using our online application form.

Before you apply, ensure you have viewed the course entry requirements and checked that you meet these with your equivalent qualification.

We accept a range of international qualifications for most courses at the University of Huddersfield. You can check whether your qualifications are accepted by checking the qualifications listed for your country.

If you’re ready to make an application to the University, follow the application steps and ensure you have the documents that you will need.

    General requirements

In order for us to check your suitability for the course, you will need to complete an application form. You will also be required to provide evidence of your academic achievements, any English language qualifications, and a personal statement detailing why you wish to study the course, plus any other additional documentation required for your course. There may be other requirements depending on your course, such as references, a portfolio or an audition.

    Additional requirements

If you have already studied in the UK, had any visa refusals for any country, or have studied at the same level already overseas, it is important that you advise us of this in your application. We will also require copies of any of your previous visas or visa documentation. This ensures that we have all the information we need to make a decision, without any delays.

If you are 16 or over and want to study at a higher education level in the UK for more than six months, you will need to apply for a Student visa. A Student visa allows a student to study at a specific UK educational institution on a specific course. The visa should cover the full length of a student’s course plus some extra time at the end.

If your course is eligible for a visa, the University will issue you with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) with which you can use to apply for your visa.

How to apply for admission and get a CAS?

Applying to the University of Huddersfield is a quick and easy process. Visit the applying to the University webpage for further information.

    Paying your tuition fee

Visit the How to pay your fees page for details about paying your fees to the University.

    Financial requirements

The financial documents are one of the most important parts of the visa application. In order to get your Student visa, you must show that you have enough money to pay for the course tuition fees and living costs (also referred to as ‘Maintenance’) while in the UK. Most international students are either self-funded or hold an official sponsorship.

    • Self-funded students: You are classed as a self-funded student if you or your parents or a legal guardian is responsible for your course fees and living costs in the UK. You will be required to meet the financial requirements by submitting evidence of personal bank accounts held either in your name or your parents’/guardians’ names, or in a joint account which bears your name.
    • Officially sponsored students: You are classed as officially sponsored if your government, a university, an international scholarship agency or an international company is responsible for your course fees and living costs in the UK. Your sponsor must issue you with an official sponsor letter that meets the Home Office’s requirements.

    Meeting the English language requirement

English language ability can be proven in various ways. Details of how the University of Huddersfield has assessed your English language ability can be found in your CAS.

    Merit-based scholarships

At the University of Huddersfield, we recognise academic excellence by offering a merit-based scholarship of up to £4,000 to international students for a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Just apply to study at the University as normal, and you will automatically be considered if you meet the eligibility criteria.

    A giant welcome from a close-knit campus

There’s loads to think about when choosing a university, from the big decisions like where you’ll live, to the (no less important) small stuff, like whether you can get one-to-one support when you need it. Spoiler: of course you can.

So, other than teaching and support staff who take the time to listen, who else should you choose for Huddersfield?

Well… those very same lecturers are among the most qualified in England, ranking in the top five for how many of them hold doctorates, while also being joint first in the country for winning National Teaching Fellowships. So, you’ll be learning from experts who are as knowledgeable as they are welcoming.

    A forest of freshers

You probably want to study somewhere that’s doing something about the climate, right?

How about somewhere that’s got a whole ten-point plan for the planet?

Starting with planting one tree for every student who enrols (that could be you) and ending in net zero.

Think bigger while you spend smaller.

Being in the heart of West Yorkshire, you’ll find the whole town really welcoming.

And it’s one of the most affordable places you can live, too – so what you save on rent, you can spend on nights out, books, clothes, or an extra treat or two in your weekly shop…

And finally, the big one. Your career.

You’ll want a university that prepares you for the world of work by giving you the chance to get some real, relevant work experience while you study.

That’s why 100% of our students get the opportunity to do this, whatever their course.
