Introduction
MA International Development
Discover the problems that face the developing world through a variety of perspectives. Our MA International Development explores the most pressing issues in international development throughout a range of social scientific standpoints. The Department of Economics, Department of Government, Department of Sociology and Essex Business School, have joined forces to create a truly interdisciplinary course focusing on all aspects related to international development.
This course teaches the essentials of economics and politics, building a very good grounding to analyse the problems in international development. Approaching similar issues from different perspectives provides a more well-rounded and integrative view of the field. You are then able to explore a set of selected topics in international development in order to hone your skills on the subject matter, or build up more statistical techniques.
On this course you build a theoretical understanding of how to approach international development issues from different perspectives, alongside opportunity of applying your knowledge to issues in international development through studying the following topics:
- Microeconomics
- Political Economy
- Econometric and Statistical techniques
You will use these research skills in applications by studying topics such as:
- Environmental Economics
- Economic Development
- Human Rights
- Ethics
You are taught by experts in the field of international development. We are ranked 28th in the UK for Social Sciences in the QS World University Rankings by Subject (2022).
