The degree consists of coursework and a research thesis. During their studies, the students will specialize in the English language and culture or English literature and culture. In the English language and culture studies, the focus is on language contact, language variation and change, pragmatics, bilingualism, and using digital resources and tools to understand the role of English in the world today. In literary and cultural studies, the department's areas of strength include postcolonial and ethnic literature, American literature, popular fiction, and contemporary fiction.
