Key Summary
Introduction
The M.Sc. in Biodiversity Conservation program has a duration of 3 academic semesters (and up to 8 semesters for part-time study) and requires the completion of 90 ECTS.
It combines a course component of 60 ECTS in total for which each student can choose from a list of Restricted Elective Courses (see Postgraduate Prospectus) as the series of compulsory departmental postgraduate seminars.
Another 30 ECTS derive from laboratory-based or field-based research on which a dissertation is written, presented orally, and assessed. Alternatively, 20 ECTS can derive from a literature-based dissertation and 10 ECTS of coursework can derive from the list of Restricted Elective Courses.

Notes
The Master's Degree in Biodiversity Conservation involves a laboratory-based or field-based research dissertation (Option I) or a literature-based dissertation (Option II).
To obtain this degree, students must complete 90 ECTS as follows:
- The following seminar courses of 0 ECTS:
- BIO 800 and BIO 801 Postgraduate Seminars I and II (in separate semesters)
- BIO 605 Basic Laboratory Health and Safety Training (during the Fall Semester)
- BIO 805 Search and Management of Βibliographic Sources (during the Spring Semester)
- BIO 800 and BIO 801 Postgraduate Seminars I and II (in separate semesters)
- BIO 605 Basic Laboratory Health and Safety Training (during the Fall Semester)
- BIO 805 Search and Management of Βibliographic Sources (during the Spring Semester)
- Six restricted elective courses of a total of 60 ECTS for Option I and 70 ECTS for Option II.
- Master's Thesis course as indicated in the Option I and Option II tables for Semester 3 below.
Option I
- BIO 831 Master Research Dissertation in Biodiversity Conservation
Students are eligible to register in BIO 831 Master Research Dissertation in Biodiversity Conservation, after they have successfully completed at least 60 ECTS of restricted elective courses. Students, who do not complete their thesis research dissertation in one semester, can register for BIO 601 Continuation of Master Research Dissertation in Biodiversity Conservation
Option II
- BIO 681 Scientific Methodology in Biodiversity Conservation

Students are eligible to register BIO 681 Scientific Methodology in Biodiversity Conservation, after they have successfully completed at least 60 ECTS of restricted elective courses
