Key Summary
The Master’s (MSc) program in Digital Heritage and Landscape Archaeology is a unique postgraduate offering in the Eastern Mediterranean, providing an interdisciplinary academic platform focused on the application of spatial technologies and GeoInformatics within the broader field of Digital Humanities.
The program serves as a bridge between emerging technologies and the Humanities, equipping students with exposure to cutting-edge spatial technologies, hands-on training with diverse instrumentation and software, and fostering a critical understanding of their applications. It emphasizes the ability to address archaeological and historical research questions while promoting interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration.
The knowledge and skills acquired through this program will empower students to navigate the competitive job market in the Humanities effectively. Additionally, it provides a solid foundation for advanced research, including pursuing further academic endeavors at the doctoral (Ph.D.) level. Students will have the opportunity to participate in international research projects conducted by the Digital Humanities GeoInformatics Lab, connecting them to an interantional network of researchers and academics. They will become part of the new generation of archaeologists who will be capable to deal with new technologies. In this sense, the program is preparing a new generation of archaeologists to comply with the future challenges of archaeological research.
The Master’s programme Digital Heritage and Landscape Archaeology contests the main stream of the traditional graduate studies in the Humanities and it is targeting the following objectives:
• Foster a meaningful dialogue and establish a solid platform for collaboration between technological and humanities disciplines.
• Cultivate a dynamic environment for both theoretical and practical training to develop highly skilled and qualified students.
• Facilitate synergies among research institutions, museums, academia, and public and private agencies, enabling students to apply their knowledge and conduct impactful research.
• Provide an international educational setting that promotes productive interaction between students and researchers, elevating the overall quality of research.
• Develop a new generation of archaeologists proficient in utilizing geospatial technologies and geoinformation systems across various cultural domains to address contemporary challenges effectively.
A number of partial scholarships for the coverage of the tuition fees (5.125 Euros) are available for full-time enrolled students of the Masters (M.Sc.) programme "Digital Heritage and Landscape Archaeology". The scholarships will be provided to the best candidates according to the points earned in the course of admission.

Through the specific graduate programme, students will be able to:
- Comprehend the relation between environment, climate and anthropogenic activities of the past with emphasis on the settlement patterns and the exploitation of environmental resources.
- Obtain state-of-the-art skills that can be used in both field campaigns and laboratory analysis of surface survey and excavation results.
- Understand how the different spatial analysis tools operate to address questions related to the habitation patterns and the intra and inter-spatial distribution of finds.
- Acquire the knowledge of creation of maps (distribution of finds, geophysical measurements, geological and topographic maps, environmental maps, etc.) and comprehend the different spatial statistic algorithms to analyze them.
- Familiarize themselves with the actual research questions and take a critical stand on the statistical and spatial statistical results.
- Obtain practical hands-on training in software (GIS, network analysis, statistical analysis, mapping, etc.) and instrumentation/hardware (geophysical instruments, drones, cameras, GPS, etc.) that will make them competitive in their future profession (academia, cultural resources management, practical archaeology, etc.) and boost their career opportunities.
