The LLM in Environmental and Energy Law programme is delivered 100% online by experienced and energetic faculty at the forefront of government environmental legislation at the top-ranked Birmingham Law School (QS 2024).
In just 2.5 years, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of sustainable energy management alongside the legal implications for businesses and individuals alike:
- Apply legal arguments to support fair distribution of natural resources
- Tackle complex commercial transactions underpinning global energy production and supply
- Examine the need for regulation and how it is assessed against operational conditions
- Factor biodiversity loss, climate change and unequal access to resources into your proposals
- Explore patterns of energy production, supply and consumption, as well as issues around energy security in geopolitical contexts
The Online LLM Environmental and Energy Law is a 180-credit full master's programme. As a student in the programme, you would study three 20-credit modules in year one, followed by three 20-credit modules in year two. Each module lasts approximately sixteen weeks. Students enrol in these modules one at a time and in a linear structure to ensure they grasp the fundamentals in manageable sections.

To fulfil the requirements of the online LLM, students then can complete a dissertation at the end of year two. This is a research project which can be tailored to a specific area of interest. The dissertation is equal to 60 credits of study.

The University of Birmingham is providing 26 scholarships, each worth £3,000, which are available for all master’s degree programs, excluding PGCerts, for the start dates in February, March, June, and July.
