Introduction

The University of Algarve is a partner in a European consortium with the University of Cantabria (Spain) and the Delft Institute for Water Education (The Netherlands) in the Erasmus Mundus Master in Coastal Hazards, Risks, Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation".

Objectives

This master's degree, coordinated by IHE Delft, aims to prepare students for professional careers that help societies face and adapt to coastal risks and also seeks to meet the worldwide need for qualified professionals in coastal engineering and management.

Students graduating from the COASTHazar master's degree are expected to acquire the necessary skills to design and implement climate change adaptation measures in vulnerable areas.

The course has a duration of 2 years (120 ECTS), distributed in semesters.

COASTHazar students take the 1st semester at the University of Cantabria (Santander), the 2nd semester at the IHE (Delft) and the 3rd semester at the University of Algarve (Faro). The 4th semester (dissertation) can be done at any of these institutions, in partnership with one of the others or with partner institutions (including companies). At the end of the 2nd semester, students attend a Summer School, which takes place in the Netherlands. Throughout the course, there are also several complementary short courses and the possibility of doing an internship in a company (in an associated partner).
