Introduction
The master’s degree program in mathematics has two specializations: one in mathematics education and the other in pure mathematics. Mathematics education covers issues related to the teaching of mathematics and prepares students to become mathematics teachers; pure mathematics delves deeper into advanced concepts and methods. Both specializations qualify students for lectureships after completing practical pedagogical education (PPU), as well as for PhD studies.
The University of Agder has a strong team of experts in mathematics and mathematics education, and in 2013 was awarded the status of National Centre of Excellence in Teaching Mathematics (MatRIC) from the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education, NOKUT.

Career Opportunities
The master's specialization in pure mathematics will prepare you for a career in mathematics and mathematical research. There is significant demand for qualified mathematicians in modern society, and employment opportunities are found in information technology, engineering, finance, economics, and insurance. Employers in a society characterized by constant change value mathematicians with the ability to quickly understand new issues.
The program in combination with PPU (Practical Pedagogical Education) qualifies for teaching at the upper secondary level.
