Introduction

Doctoral Training Alliance Applied Biosciences for Health was the first Doctoral Training Alliance to be launched in 2015 and now connects researchers from across the network under an interdisciplinary umbrella theme of “understanding and promoting healthy ageing”. This encompasses Alliance research strengths on aspects of the biology of ageing, physical activity and rehabilitation, mental health, human disease and technology development. The theme is also closely aligned with our energy and social policy Doctoral Training Alliances. It complements the strategic priorities of the government’s industrial and life sciences strategies and several other major funders' objectives.
