Key Summary

About : The Panthéon Sorbonne Master in Economics (PSME) offers a Financial Economics track that focuses on the application of economic principles to financial markets and institutions. The program emphasizes analytical skills and quantitative methods, preparing students for today's complex economic environment. Courses cover various topics including financial theory, investment analysis, and risk management, providing a robust foundation in economic theory and practice.
Career Outcomes : Graduates can pursue positions in various sectors such as investment banking, financial consulting, and risk management. They may also work in policy analysis, finance, and economics, leveraging their advanced skills to impact business and financial decisions effectively. This track opens doors to roles in government agencies, multinational corporations, and financial institutions.

This track will give students with a background in economics a deeper understanding of the economic and quantitative tools applied to the field of financial economics. Students will be trained at an upper-intermediate level (M1 level) and will have a broad understanding of the main themes in both economics and finance.

Interested applicants should clearly state in their motivation letter that they would like to apply to this track and choose the PSME Financial Economics track in the application form that they should submit along with the rest of the documents.

This specialized training in financial economics allows for better preparation and integration into the different M2 courses of the MBFA Master's degree. The main objectives, admission procedures, number of teaching hours (and ECTS credits), languages of instruction follow those of the main course of the PSME, but students enrolled in the "Financial Economics" course will follow a balanced mix of courses in economics and also in finance.

Courses in economics and languages are shared with the main course of the PSME, while courses in finance are either shared with M1 MBFA or created specifically for students in the PSME Financial Economics course.

After the Diploma

In most European countries, the Master is in two years. The first year, called M1, is normally followed by a second year, called M2. The PSME program is an M1 program. The PSME Financial Economics track is an equivalent of the French national M1 MBFA (Money, Bank, Finance, Insurance) and thus provides direct access to the M2 programs in the Money, Bank, Finance, Insurance field.

After this year you obtain a university diploma entitled Panthéon Sorbonne MSc. in Economics and have access to the M2 programs specialized in the field of Money, Bank, Finance and Insurance (MBFA).

You can find details on the Money, Bank, Finance, and Insurance programs here:

More and more M2 programs are taught in English, but having learned French during the PSME year remains an asset since some courses are still taught in French.
