Introduction
Computer science degree
(Option: Management Computing and Networks and Telecommunications)
The Faculty of Sciences of the UCB exists since 2003 and had at the beginning only the Department of Computer Sciences. The opening of this Department responded at the time to an unprecedented need to provide greater Kivu and its surroundings with highly qualified university executives in the computer field. For several years, UCB's strategic managers have been aware of the dual need to gradually consolidate this Computer Science Department, the importance of which continues to grow, while diversifying the training offer in light of the Company's needs.
From this awareness were born, since the start of the 2015-2016 academic year, the brand new Department of Environmental Sciences as well as the Networks and Telecommunications option which coexists with that of Management Information Technology in the Bachelor's Degree in Sciences of computing. This momentum of consolidation of the existing doubled opening of new horizons is only at its beginning because in the medium term, the opening of new Departments (reflections already advanced in favor of Architecture and Construction, Software Engineering) will allow many families to no longer send their daughters and sons to very remote regions and presenting multifaceted risks for generally expensive training with a largely debatable quality/cost ratio.
In the current phase of its development, our faculty therefore contains within it the department of computer sciences which trains computer engineers and that of environmental sciences (still in its first year) which will provide Kivu and the entire Region of its very first generation of scientists trained in the coupling of studies and actions in environmental matters.
Pending the effectiveness of national efforts for a successful linking of our education system to the LMD system, training at UCB lasts another five (5) years, including three (3) years of Graduat and two (2) years of License.
To date, the Faculty of Sciences has already produced 225 computer engineers and is patiently awaiting the necessary slow maturation of its future first experts in Environmental Sciences.
II. ASSIGNMENT
Our faculty's mission is to gradually fill the gap in the Kivu Region, the entire Congo and its surroundings in highly qualified scientific executives for its harmonious development and respectful of ethical and environmental values.
III. VISION
Our Faculty has experienced a palpable dynamism for several years. It intends to conquer in the medium term, national and international recognition as a framework of excellence for training in the service of Development.
It will open the Department of Architecture and Urbanism as well as the Software Engineering option in the near future. The gradual expansion of its training offer involving in the same proportions enormous needs in modeling and other reinforcements of teaching of quantitative methods, we are already conducting a study on the feasibility of an Applied Mathematics department comprising a general graduate with an emphasis on statistics and modeling in License.
Such a Department will also respond to daily teaching needs throughout the university given the cross-cutting nature of Mathematical Sciences while expressing the signs of a certain maturation of our Faculty.
IV. DEPARTMENTS
1. Department of Computer Science
Option :
- Management IT
- Networks and Telecommunications
2. Department of Environmental Sciences
V. STAFF
The faculty office is made up of:
- A Dean of the Faculty
- An educational supervisor and
- An administrative secretary
To better support its students in their search for their internship, two units have been set up: internship supervision and research supervision.
The permanent academic and scientific body is made up of twelve (12)
members including three (3) full professors and nine (9) assistants, four (4) of whom are in doctoral training. This relatively still small permanent team is greatly aided by the commitment and collaboration of several highly qualified Visiting Professors who come from the four corners of the earth (UNILU, UNIKIN, UNIKIS, UB-Burundi, UCAC, Yaoundé 1, MIT-Boston, UCL, ULB, etc.).
VI. MATERIAL RESOURCES
Given that the theoretical courses offered in the various streams of the Faculty of Sciences require practical complements, the Faculty of Sciences has a modern laboratory with a capacity of more than 150 students as well as an internet connection.
For the Department of Environmental Sciences, several partnerships exist between the Faculty and the actors involved in the promotion of the environment (Ecological Museum of South Kivu, CRSN-Lwiro, INERA-Mulungu, etc.
PROFILE OF ENTRY CANDIDATES:
Hold a state diploma (regardless of the option);
PROFILE OF EXIT CANDIDATES
- Programmer analysts;
- Experts in Networks and telecommunications;
- Experts in Environmental Sciences (environmental impact study, design of environmental projects in the general sense).
