About: The Master in Renewable Energies and Energy Sustainability at The University of Barcelona trains students in sustainability, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. It combines multidisciplinary teaching from physics, chemistry, biology, earth sciences, law, and economics with seminars from industry and curricular internships. You’ll study sustainability, decarbonization, environmental impact, technology and policy, and do a Master’s thesis with a company in Barcelona.

Career Outcomes: Graduates enter research centers, energy and environmental consultancies, public regulatory bodies, and firms that design, manufacture, and install renewable-energy and efficiency equipment. Roles include technician, innovation manager, project developer, quality controller, business developer, and sustainability consultant.

Recent generations have enjoyed unprecedented economic and social progress, based on the abundant energy provided by fossil fuels. However, all indications suggest that this era is coming to an end. This is due, on the one hand, to the increasing difficulty of securing these resources and, on the other, to the significant environmental impact they have. In this context, sustainability emerges as the new paradigm of prosperity for the immediate future.

This master's program addresses the concept of sustainability from all angles and with due scientific rigor, preparing students to work in companies and institutions that provide sustainable solutions or integrate sustainability into their business strategy. As various studies show, this is a large and expanding sector that offers a significant proportion of skilled jobs, especially, though not exclusively, in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The teaching staff comes from various departments within the faculties of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Earth Sciences, Law, and Economics and Business. Classes are complemented by seminars led by professionals from numerous companies in the sector located in our region. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to complete curricular internships at one of these companies and even to carry out their Master's thesis there.
