Introduction

The speciality covers the software aspects of autonomous technological systems, which constitute the so called System of Systems (SoS), and interact with each other. Examples of such SoS are, intelligent vehicles that can communicate with each other, a flotilla of small UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), or sensors networks that can exchange information in real-time to monitor the environment. The SoS sub-systems implement capacities of perception, communication, learning, decision, and action, while interacting each other through feedback and feed forward action and with their dynamic environment. They must also deal with numerous uncertain sources, which may lower their own performances and consequently lower the overall performance of the SoS.

The Major in Interacting Complex Systems is an integral part of the Labex "System of Systems Control" education program. It benefits from the Government label as a “laboratory of excellence” (Spring 2011), with 3 joint UTC/CNRS research units: BMBI (UMR 7338), Heudiasyc (UMR 7253) and Roberval (UMR 7337).

Pedagogical context

To design, study and implement such complex systems the training program covers the system-based approaches and information and systems technologies, particularly in:

  • optimisation and operational research,
  • safety, supervision, monitoring,
  • data analysis and fusion, machine learning,
  • automatic, dynamic systems modelling, state observation,
  • robots command and navigation,
  • perception, vision,
  • distributed systems and networks.

Professional goals

Students who successfully complete the TIS Master’s degree can apply for professional positions in the following areas:

  • software engineering,
  • automotive and railway industries,
  • ground transportation and logistics,
  • defence and security,
  • distributed and collaborative computing,
  • research, teaching, higher education
