Introduction
The Medicine and Surgery program is offered by Università Cattolica in collaboration with Claudia Polo Universitario delle Professioni Sanitarie. Lectures are conducted at Claudiana, located in Bolzano, the capital of the South Tyrol region.
The students of the new degree program will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and a qualified faculty, benefiting from the experience of doctors and researchers from the A. Gemelli University Hospital and the clinical training opportunities provided by local facilities.
The Università Cattolica's 6-year Single-Cycle MD Medicine and Surgery degree provides full integration of learning objectives of European and US curricula and it is achieved through a multidisciplinary approach.
The focus is not only on basic and clinical sciences, but also on patient management, the legal responsibilities of the medical profession, and its ethical aspects.
Integrated Courses
The Medicine and Surgery Master’s Degree program consists of a series of integrated courses, each one focusing on a specific area of scientific skills and dealing with specific notions.
The key features of the teaching in the program are:
- Horizontal and vertical integration of knowledge
- Teaching methods based on a solid foundation in the pre-clinical area, and using a problem-based approach
- Early contact with patients
- Acquisition of clinical skills as well as development of strong communication skills.

Career Opportunities
Upon successfully passing an assessed internship, the State Examination, and following registration with the Medical Association of their local Province, all Medicine and Surgery graduates are qualified to perform clinical care in Italy.
Graduates in Medicine and Surgery are qualified to carry out surgery in various roles and in clinical, health, and biomedical professional fields.
The program is designed for students who wish to become qualified general practitioners.
A natural extension of the Medicine and Surgery training program is access to specialty training schools in the sector or further studies in the three-year regional program of specific training in general medicine for which graduate students in the LM-41 class are eligible.
Graduates from the degree program taught in English will be eligible to participate in USMLE Steps 1 and 2 and, thus, in the USA Post Graduate Training and Residencies, as well as in similar programs scheduled in European countries or non-European anglophone countries.
Non-Italian graduates from the International MD Medicine and Surgery program have the opportunity to attend Italian language courses essential for their integration into Italian society and, in particular, for doctor-patient communication in the national health context. Knowledge of the Italian language will favor the graduate’s access to the Specialty Training Schools within the Italian University.
