Introduction
The inter-university master's degree provides training in advanced linguistics to graduates in Philology, Languages, Linguistics, Translation and Interpreting, Humanities and Sociology, to specialize them in the applied areas of Language Acquisition and Teaching, Communication and Linguistic Resources, and Lexicon, Grammar and Variation.
It is an inter-university master's degree that is taught with the universities of A Coruรฑa and Vigo allowing students, depending on their training, to acquire and/or reinforce training in advanced linguistics (compulsory course module, with methodological and fundamental subjects). and specialize in one of the thematic blocks of an essentially applied nature into which the optional subjects are grouped:
- Language acquisition and teaching
- Communication and language resources
- Lexicon, grammar and variation
Curriculum
To obtain the degree, students must necessarily take a specialty, for which they must choose two modules of their specialty.
Specialty in Linguistics applied to language acquisition
Modules:
- Linguistics applied to language acquisition
- Second language teaching
- Spanish sign language
It provides advanced and current training in applied linguistics and linguistic theory as well as methodological resources that allow language acquisition or atypical linguistic development (linguistic pathologies) to be addressed in new multilingual and multimodal contexts. The theoretical and practical content of this specialty allows professional specialization for speech therapists or graduates in languages or translation and interpretation, who want to focus on areas such as clinical linguistics, the teaching of second languages or the professional uses of sign language.
Specialty in Communication and linguistic resources

- Mediation and planning
Provides advanced linguistic training to act in multidisciplinary environments, having as fundamental objectives the development of communication skills, knowledge and use of specific languages, mastery of the virtual environment and new technologies, management and organization of information, creation of content for any medium or support and knowledge of the main concepts of language planning and policy. The theoretical and practical content of this specialty prepares the student to act in multidisciplinary and diversified professional fields.
Specialty in Lexicon, grammar and variation
Modules:
- The universe of lexicon
- Semantics, grammar and pragmatics
- Contrastive linguistics and variation It offers a specialization in the field of study of lexicon, semantics, grammar and pragmatics, as well as in the interrelationships between these components, and in the field of contrastive linguistics and variation.
Its objective is to familiarize students with both current scientific theories and their practical applications, so that they acquire the ability to design, plan and develop research topics and projects in this field.
Schedule
The master's schedule is in the afternoon to make it compatible with other academic or professional activities.
The compulsory subjects are taught in person in the Philology faculties of the three Galician universities. Other subjects are taught by videoconference and also in person.
Program Outcome
This master's degree is designed to offer solid training to students in linguistics, both theoretical and applied. We want to train highly qualified specialists in linguistics, who know how to function in multidisciplinary environments, have communication skills, know and use specific languages, master the virtual environment and new technologies, and know how to manage and organize information, as demanded by the labor market. The master's degree is also intended as a prior training period to access a doctoral program in the linguistic field.

It is recommended, as an entry profile, the existence of prior academic training in the field of Arts and Humanities or Social Sciences, especially having completed a graduate degree or equivalent that includes specific training in linguistic studies, in the field of communication, etc.
