Master in Environmental Engineering
The Master in Environmental Engineering (MEA) of the University of Aveiro (UA) aims to train technicians capable of predicting and characterizing environmental problems and dysfunctions and of proposing solutions to avoid and solve them, technically and financially viable. It is based on the UA's experience and competence in the area of Environmental Engineering, which enables a better integration of knowledge in a holistic approach for understanding the processes and operation of environmental systems, ensuring an inter and multidisciplinary training in diversified areas and in a European context, and allowing flexibility and alternation in employment.
Knowledge, skills and competences to support society in the design, development and management of built environment, in a growing population world, simultaneously with a more efficient use of resources and under a circular economy perspective.
Should be prepared to naturally lead multi- and inter-disciplinary teams for the prevention and resolution of environmental problems. Thus, a strong technical background is needed, as well as communication skills to work with engineers and experts from other areas and to influence society and decision-makers towards the best practices and development strategies. Should be able to:
- anticipate future environmental challenges and the needs of a demanding society in terms of technical environmental knowledge, but also to holistically understand society functioning, economy and governance
- comprehensively prevent and solve environmental problems, with national and European perspectives, and for a changing challenging world.

Career Opportunities
The Masters in Environmental Engineering (MEE) will be qualified to perform functions of senior staff in the most varied industrial and organizational areas of the public or private sector, whose activity involves, directly or indirectly, interaction with the environment. The MEE will have the skills to develop environmental assessment activities, including diagnosis of contamination situations and preparation of environmental impact studies, environmental management, including planning of integrated environmental management systems, integrated control and treatment of pollution in its different compartments (water, air and waste), including design and operation of treatment systems/processes and technologies.
In view of these skills, there are multiple professional opportunities, with emphasis on industrial, design, consultancy and service provision companies, central and local administration, public and private sector related to the environment and research laboratories and institutes.
