Introduction
Master in Applied Biology
Applied Biology is currently at the forefront of scientific research and technological development. In fact, the applications of biological knowledge are increasingly diversified in their different levels of organization.
The MSc in Applied Biology is a fully flexible master's degree, in which the student can build his/her own academic course, following the best international practices. It has a duration of 2 years, corresponding to a total of 120 ECTS. The first year comprises a curricular component (60 ECTS), in a total of 10 Curricular Units (UC), five for each semester, designated Option I, II, III, IV, V and VI, and Free Option I, II, III and IV. The second year comprises 2 UC: Transferable Skills in Life Sciences (6 ECTS) and Dissertation/Project/Internship (54 ECTS), in which the student develops his/her research work, within the framework of the University of Aveiro or another host institution, national or international, if it is approved, in terms of quality, by the Master Course Direction.
The flexible organization of the curricular component was designed so that the student can construct his/her curriculum, choosing the UC of Option of extensive lists, previously selected for each semester, and the UC Free Option of any UC offered for the master courses by the various Organic Units of the University of Aveiro. The possibility for the student to choose the Option and Free Option UCs allows him/her to fight deficiencies in certain scientific areas considered fundamental for the development of his research work and simultaneously to help him/her confirm his/her scientific preferences.
