Doctorate in Biotechnology
Biotechnology is the exploitation of organisms and biological processes with a clear capacity for transforming production and, therefore, the economy in areas such as human health and the pharmaceutical industry, food production, marine resources, industrial sectors, such as chemistry and energy, and the environment.
The general aim of the PhD Program in Biotechnology is to train top-level researchers with a balance between basic and applied research in various areas of Biotechnology, namely in three distinct areas: Medical (red), Industrial (white) and Marine (Blue) Biotechnology. We are aiming to prepare highly trained graduates able to tackle innovation problems in a multidisciplinary manner, permitting to work in industrial sectors, biotechnology companies, service companies, health structures, in public or private research centres, as well as in academic institutions.
The Doctoral Program in Biotechnology results from a cooperation of three departments of the University of Aveiro: Chemistry, Biology and Medical Sciences, through their Research Units: CICECO, CESAM and iBiMED.
