Master in European Comparative Literature

The University Master's Degree in Comparative Literature is conceived as an initiation Master's Degree in Research in Literary Studies of European tradition. The Master is proposed as a way to specialize the already graduated student in the theoretical and methodological knowledge of Comparative Literature and in European literary studies. In the first dimension, with special emphasis on those theoretical-critical currents and methodological approaches of greater validity and current influence.

In its development, the Master's study plan is conceived as a support for the historical knowledge of the European literary tradition through the study of various literary traditions in their interconnection, that is, as networks of fluid transversality and mutual influence.

The program pursues the following general objectives of the Title:

• Train the student in the study of European literary traditions, understood not as an addition to parallel stories but as a network of interrelations. For this, the courses offered affect the periods, genres, themes, or theoretical concepts of greatest projection and influence in European culture. This pursues a broad and systematic understanding of the field of study, which then allows specialization.
• Promote knowledge of the main trends in literature theory and their application to the analysis of the literary fact and cultural phenomena. This seeks up-to-date training, focused on the most recent (often also more complex and sophisticated) contributions from the field of critical theory and literature theory.
• Train students in the protocols of literary research: compilation and bibliographic review, formulation of thesis and working hypotheses, argumentation, and management of primary and secondary sources.
• Train researchers who are capable of handling the most current knowledge, theories and methods in literary studies to produce quality research, in the form of critical studies that allow the advancement of knowledge in the area of comparative literature studies.
• From the point of view of skills, students will seek to foster a critical and rigorous attitude towards the different methodologies and schools that approach the study of literature. The aim will be that the student not only be able to apply the most appropriate methodological and conceptual tools to their research, but also know how to discern their limits and problems.

The University Master's Degree in Comparative Literature is conceived as an initiation Master's Degree in Research in Literary Studies of European tradition. In the first dimension, with special emphasis on those theoretical-critical currents and methodological approaches of greater validity and current influence. The Master allows to deepen the ability to analyze literary texts with attention to its formal, historical-contextual and conceptual elements. Likewise, it will develop the faculties to identify problems and subjects of study and to select the critical perspective that allows them to be understood and explored with greater performance. Lastly, it will introduce students to the knowledge of research protocols in literary studies: bibliographic search, hypothesis formation, corpus selection, methodological option, evaluation of existing literature, argumentation and proof.
