UC3M is a Spanish public university that excels in research, teaching and innovation. It is among the best universities in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2025 and among the best institutions in employability, according to The Global University Employability Ranking and Survey (Geurs2024). In the latest edition of THE Impact Rankings, it was ranked 24th in the world for its commitment to peace and justice. It has more than 780 agreements with universities in 57 countries, among which there are some of the best universities in the world according to the Shanghai University ranking. 27,8% of its students are international. The University is one of the promoters of the Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE) alliance, one of the networks selected by the EU in its European Universities Initiative. UC3M is the first university in Europe to obtain the ACEEU dual accreditation for its contribution and impact on the industrial and social fabric, and it also has other accreditations and distinctions of quality such as the EUR-ACE seal in the field of engineering or the AACSB accreditation in business and finance programs.

History
UC3M was established by an Act of the Spanish Parliament on 5 May 1989, within the framework of the University Reform Act of 1983. From the outset it was intended to be a relatively small, innovative, public university, providing teaching of the highest quality and focused primarily on research. Our first Chancellor was Professor Gregorio Peces-Barba.
