The University of Rijeka (founded in 1973) is a modern European university and a centre of scientific excellence. By providing high-quality education grounded in scientific research, the University of Rijeka seeks to fulfil its social role, namely that of a responsible contributor to the social and economic development of north-western Croatia.

The University of Rijeka is open not only to students, teaching staff, and researchers, but also to recent developments and trends in science and higher education. We foster the development of interdisciplinarity, multidisciplinarity, and transdisciplinarity, both in scientific research and learning and teaching. Having embraced an organized and systematic approach to student and researcher mobility, we support scientific and artistic careers alike, enabling each individual to express their talents and entrepreneurial potential.

S(up)port during studies

In addition to the faculties, the Campus is also home to student housing and the student restaurant, which, in addition to meeting important life needs, also ensures the adequate standard and quality of life of all students, taking care of affordable prices for students of lower socioeconomic status. As part of our Resilient Campus, the students can also spend their time in the Resilient Park, which consists of a large playground (for basketball, volleyball, and tennis), a smaller, cageball court, and an amphitheater which serves as an outdoor classroom.

The University Library Rijekaoperates at two locations – in the city centre and on the Trsat Campus. Working all day, every day, it provides students with a range of services and a comfortable space to study and socialize late into the night.

All University of Rijeka students who are not from Rijeka have access to health care.The Student Health Care Centre and Family Medicine Practiceoperate at the University Campus, and to acquire the right to health care, the students are required only to visit the infirmary.

The Campus is the focal point of several centres that organize various activities and programmes. The Student Counselling Centre (SSC) continuously works to improve academic performance and enhance the quality of life of students through individual and group psychological therapy, individual counselling, support for students with disabilities, career counselling, educational and informational workshops, and lectures. Student Cultural Centre (SKC)strives to create a new framework for thinking about cultural production and creating cultural policy specifically aimed at the student and young population and the independent cultural scene. SKC is also in charge of its own Gallery, located in the city centre.

As a lifeblood of student life, the Campus hosts various exhibitions of an educational as well as artistic nature – both in indoor venues and outdoor spaces, i.e. the panels on the busiest Campus promenade. Campus is also the home to several permanent art installations: the I'm not a robot drywall and installations:Equality is not a privilege, SnøhettaSense of play, and Bunker.

Student activism

Student activism is among the most important determinants of all levels of study at our university. We want students to actively participate in the university community. For this purpose, the Student Union of the University of Rijeka (SZSUR) issues an annual call for applications for co-financing student projects, whereby students receive funding for the organization and implementation of various student activities, ranging from congresses, scientific projects, technical projects – construction of various means of transport (cars, solar vessels) up to projects aimed at improving the student standard.

Many of these activities and programmes are organized and partly take place on the Campus, for example:

• Student Day Festival – the biggest regional student festival that combines music, sports, and art
• Freshman Camp RIBROO – the unique project of its kind in Croatia
• Student International Film Festival (STIFF) – first Croatian international festival dedicated exclusively to student and debut films
• Kišobran– UNIRI's student media platform
• STUDOŠ BEERA – student beer
