About: The MSc Engineers for Smart Cities at Université Côte d’Azur examines urban systems and innovations for sustainable, connected cities. Using Nice as a living lab with IMREDD partnerships, it offers a multidisciplinary programme for graduates from engineering, architecture, business, environmental sciences. It equips students to design, deploy, manage and operate smart infrastructure, IoT systems, urban services and sustainable urbanization.
Career Outcomes: Graduates work in private firms, consultancies, engineering companies and public organizations. Career opportunities include project manager (mobility, energy, smart buildings), consultant, planner, architect, innovation manager, R&D or urban engineer, development leader, adviser in local or regional institutions.
Today more than half of the world’s population lives in cities. This proportion is expected to further increase by 2050. To manage our cities effectively and sustainably has thus become essential to preserve and optimize resources and improve the well-being of citizens.
In recent years, a new concept of Smart City has emerged to tackle modern cities’ issues and make urban development more sustainable and liveable. Most cities across the world are undergoing this transformation triggered by the ongoing digital transition contributing to innovative urban infrastructures and providing efficient services to citizens.
Understanding the Smart City
The aim of the program is to explore the interdependence of urban systems and appraise the emerging innovations and business solutions deployed in smart cities. The city of Nice, one of the world’s smartest cities, is our living lab and participants may benefit from the local university-government-industry cooperation powered by Université Côte d’Azur’s Mediterranean Institute for Risks, Environment and Sustainable Development (IMREDD).
The MSc Engineers for Smart Cities offers an advanced multidisciplinary study experience focused on Smart Cities as well as the innovations and business solutions driven by the transition towards more sustainable urban environments.
This program is designed for graduates and experienced practitioners from a wide range of backgrounds with a common interest in smart cities and innovation. Current participants have diverse academic and professional backgrounds, such as engineering, architecture and urban design, business administration and management, environmental sciences, etc.
The MSc Engineers for Smart Cities equips participants with the necessary skills for current and future jobs related to the design, deployment, management, and operation of sustainable urban systems. It aims to foster professionals capable of developing, implementing, and managing innovative projects around the smart city: a sustainable, connected, integrated, attractive, and liveable city.

France Excellence Europa Scholarship Program
International students from 26 European countries may be awarded the France Excellence Europa scholarship to pursue a Master's degree at Université Côte d’ Azur for a maximum period of 12 months (M2) and 24 months (M1).
EIFFEL Scholarship Program of Excellence
The Eiffel Scholarship program is a tool developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to enable French higher education institutions to attract the best foreign students to graduate programs at the master's and doctoral levels.
Participants will acquire the requisite skills for a career in private companies, consultancies, engineering firms, as well as public-sector organizations, involved in projects to develop products and services related to smart cities and sustainable urbanization.
