Introduction

This two-year English Language Master's Degree in the Ancient Mediterranean World (History Archaeology and Art) was recognized as a Department of Excellence by the Italian Ministry of Education for 2018-2022 and ranked top 30 in the 2018 QS World Ranking for subject Classics & Ancient History.

Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to study the Mediterranean World, considered through Archaeology and History from a unique perspective, combining all the civilizations facing the Mediterranean from the 2nd millennium to the Middle Ages. The course makes full use of Pavia's rich archaeological landscape: Pavia is surrounded by world-class Prehistoric, Roman, and Medieval heritage and by several Museums with historic Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan, and Roman collections.

Students will benefit from:

  • Official agreements between the University and several Italian and international Institutions, such as New York University – Institute of Study for Ancient World, the Egyptian Museum of Turin, the Soprintendenza of Piedmont, and the Istituto Villa Adriana-Villa d’Este at Tivoli, Rome.
  • Possibilities of internships in Italy and abroad
  • Regular study trips and fieldwork opportunities, such as archaeological excavations.s, surveys, and Museums lab) in Cappadocia (Turkey) and several parts of Italy, including at two UNESCO world heritage sites, Hadrian’s Villa at Tivoli and Dos dell’Arca in Valcamonica.
