Key Summary
Management Studies focuses on the provision of educational opportunities to equip candidates for careers in the field of commerce and industry. A wide theoretical training and sound foundation in the principles of Accounting, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Supply Chain Management and Public Administration are provided. The undergraduate degree courses offered are specially designed to develop in candidates an innovative and entrepreneurial outlook as well as an adaptability of mind that will enable them, after a brief period of practical experience, to become eligible for responsible managerial positions (in the private and/or public sectors) or, if desired, self-employment.
Rationale
The university's strategic plan places emphasis on research, teaching, learning and scholarship. Additionally, there is a need for a socially cohesive and inclusive institutional culture that thrives. This overall University focus is embodied as part of the School of Management Information Technology and Governance’s purpose. Hence, the Bachelor of Commerce degree is designed to provide a primary foundation into the field of business and commerce.
Ultimately, this would serve to develop graduates from their primary discipline into organisational management and leadership positions as well as entrepreneurial development and innovation. This is required in order to work in the dynamic complex environment of contemporary Africa and its transition agenda, as well as the need for internationalisation and globalisation. This programme will also serve as a bridging programme to the Bachelor of Commerce Honours and related management and commercial fields.
