Key Summary
About: UGM's Master in Chemistry (est. 1981) is BAN-accredited and focuses on inorganic/materials, analytical/environmental, physical/nanocatalysis, and organic/biomolecular chemistry. The programme offers regular and research routes, completed in 3 to 4 semesters with 40 credits (24 compulsory, 12 study-interest, ≥4 elective). Graduation needs a thesis, GPA of at least 3.0, and no C in compulsory courses. Applicants from relevant bachelor backgrounds need minimum GPA of 2.75 and must pass a written test; research-route applicants have a research-plan assessment.
Career Outcomes: Graduates can work as research scientists, analytical chemists, materials or process engineers, environmental chemists, quality control specialists, or pursue doctoral study.
The Postgraduate Chemistry Study Program was opened in 1981. This program was acknowledged by the Decree of the Director-General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia in 1993. The master's and doctoral programs in the Department of Chemistry have been accredited by BAN (National Accreditation Board). Starting in 2016, the management of the master's and doctoral programs in Chemistry was separated. The master of chemistry program was focused on four research focuses Inorganic and Material Chemistry, Analytical and Environmental Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Nanocatalysis, and Organic Synthesis and Biomolecular Chemistry.
The Master Study Program consist of a regular program and a Master by research that can be completed by a student within 3 to 4 semesters, with a minimum number of credits that must be completed is 40 credits, including 24 credits of compulsory courses, 12 credits of compulsory courses of the study interest, and a minimum of 4 credits of elective courses. Graduation requirements include: having a minimum of 40 credits, including all required compulsory courses, the completion of a thesis having a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and there is no C grade in the compulsory course grades.
The admission requirements to the Master of Chemistry study program at UGM, refer to the admission requirements for the master's program at Universitas Gadjah Mada. The applicants have to pass a substantive selection through a written test and an assessment of the research plan (Master by research program). Prospective students are graduates of Bachelor of Chemistry or non-chemistry student programs but still relevant to the field of chemistry (Chemistry Education, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Agriculture, Agricultural Technology, Health Laboratory Technology, Environmental Health) with a minimum GPA of 2.75 and have held a bachelor degree for not more than 8 years.
