The Endodontics MSc program is designed for dental professionals who want to deepen their understanding of root canal therapy and other endodontic treatments. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, focusing on current techniques and advances in the field. Students learn how to diagnose complex cases, manage difficult treatments, and incorporate recent research into their practice. The program encourages critical thinking and supports students in developing confidence in handling a variety of endodontic procedures.
The program also covers topics like anatomy, pulp biology, and infection control, providing a comprehensive understanding of how to preserve teeth and promote oral health. Students are guided through clinical practice, gaining hands-on experience in managing patients and performing procedures under supervision. The course aims to build both professional competence and confidence, preparing students to excel in specialist practice or academia. It emphasizes evidence-based approaches while fostering a collaborative learning environment for dental professionals at different stages of their careers.
UCL Scholarships
There are a number of scholarships available to postgraduate students, including our UCL Masters Bursary for UK students and our UCL Global Masters Scholarship for international students. You can click the link below to search via the scholarships finder for awards that you might be eligible for. Your academic department will also be able to provide you with more information about funding.
External Scholarships
Online aggregators like Postgraduate Studentships, Scholarship Search, Postgraduate Funding and International Financial Aid and College Scholarship Search contain information on a variety of external schemes.
If you have specific circumstances or ethnic or religious background it is worth searching for scholarships/bursaries/grants that relate to those things. Some schemes are very specific.
Funding for disabled students
Master's students who have a disability may be able to get extra funding for additional costs they incur to study.
Teaching and learning
The programme is delivered through specially designed interactive lectures and seminars. Skills laboratory simulation courses are geared towards developing cognitive and technical skills, while diagnostic clinics facilitate the development of diagnostic and treatment planning skills.
Students also get involved in:
- The supervised treatment of patients
- Case conferences
- Reflective logbooks to develop clinical skills
- Courses on use of rotary instruments, use of the microscope and surgical treatment
- A self-directed endodontic techniques course
- Presentations at conferences and clinical and research meetings
- A supervised research project leading to a dissertation.
We use a variety of summative assessment methods.
Subject-specific knowledge is assessed through an unseen written examination (short answer questions, essays, MCQs) and an oral academic examination.
Intellectual, academic and research skills are assessed through unseen written essays, academic and clinical oral examinations, a presented dissertation, and oral examination.
Practical and clinical skills are assessed through continuous assessment of simulated laboratory coursework, simulated practical tests, clinical case-logs, oral examination on an unseen simulated case, and oral examination on submitted case reports
You will also undergo formative assessments to help you achieve your learning outcomes, such as:
- Continual monitoring of simulation laboratory, clinical, and research activities.
- Continual monitoring of seminar performance.
- Mock written papers.
- Mock oral examinations.
- Scheduled quarterly academic and research progress assessments through an internal graduate appraisal process.
- Work-based assessment, including case-based discussions, clinical evaluation exercises, direct observation of procedural skills in surgery, and procedure-based assessment.
The estimated total study time is 1,800 hours for the programme (equivalent to a full-time position).
This includes 20% in lectures, tutorials, and seminars, 20% on simulated skills laboratory courses, and 35% in clinical training. The rest is allocated to the dissertation and independent study. This distribution of study hours remains even throughout the academic year.
