Put your love of numbers and your strong sense of order to work keeping track of where the money goes in business and in the economy. At Thiel, we’ll prepare you to work in the accounting field immediately upon graduation or provide you with the knowledge you need to enter graduate school.
The objective of the Thiel College accounting program is to develop a solid foundation for public accounting, governmental accounting, and corporate accounting.
Major Features
- Learn generally accepted accounting principles and be able to prepare financial statements.
- Understand the importance of independent audits and generally accepted auditing standards.
- Possess a basic understanding of the Internal Revenue Code and the impact of taxes on business.

- Get the opportunity to earn scholarships from the Haller Enterprise Institute and receive an award from the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Program Outcome
Public accounting is a field for independent accountants who review and report on the propriety of management’s measurements and communications of financial information; the corporate accountant accumulates, interprets, and reports to management the financial results of the organization’s activities. With this preparation, one may structure a studies program toward either immediate employment or graduate school.
A student who graduates from Thiel College with a major in accounting will demonstrate:
- an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and the ability to prepare accurate and informative financial statements.
- working knowledge of the importance and function of independent audits and generally accepted auditing standards.
- a basic understanding of the Internal Revenue Code and the impact of taxes on business decisions.
- competency in data analysis techniques, including spreadsheets and databases.
- a facility in understanding and resolving ethical dilemmas faced by accountants and auditors.
