Mathematics, Actuarial Science Concentration, B.S. at a Glance

A Mathematics degree requires 120 credit hours. Math majors in the Actuarial Science concentration take 12 credit hours of calculus, linear algebra, an introductory computer programming course, and 24 credits of concentration coursework in mathematics and statistics and 12 credits in Business electives, relevant to actuaries. The Unifying Language of Mathematics

Mathematics is a language, a science, an art form, and a tool of tremendous power. Today every educated person needs at least a familiarity with the language of mathematics to understand the growth of technology in almost every aspect of our society. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics seeks to introduce students to this vast area of knowledge and assist its students to develop:

  • Understanding of concepts, structure, and style of mathematics;
  • The ability to reason deductively and inductively; and
  • Facility with the applications of mathematics.
