The Evergreen State College

Set amid a serene Pacific Northwest forest of Olympia, Washington, Evergreen is one of the few public liberal arts and sciences college in the U.S.A. We offer degrees in Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, and Master’s. Evergreen’s curriculum focuses on real-life problems, themes, and experiences. Here, students discover a better way of learning: hands-on and self-directed, with class sizes that are remarkably small for a public college. About 86% of Evergreen’s graduates find success in careers, service, or in graduate schools across the globe just one year after graduation.

No Traditional Majors or Minors: At the undergraduate level, Evergreen students do not declare traditional majors/minors. Instead, they intentionally plan their educational journey by developing a Path. A Path will help students stay on track and take the courses and programs that are just right for their interests. Students can either select one of the 17 pre-built paths or shape their own. They can change paths at any time and keep the credits that have already been earned.

Path Concentrations

  • Writing, Language and World Literature
  • Social Institutions and Making Change

Learning Environments

Languages

Learn a new language and explore the history and culture behind it. Language courses are inspiring experiences linked to many Paths and Fields that will bring what you are learning to life. Consider a Study Abroad experience to deepen your learning.

Individual Study

Individual Study is a great way to broaden your understanding and have a one-of-a-kind experience. Design your own course of study and get space to work independently on a project you’re passionate about like writing a piece of music, studying the remains of an ancient city, doing research in an archive, or traveling to study a cultural practice.

Study Abroad

Travel with a tight-knit community of fellow students and your faculty to explore the cultures and history of people around the world.
