The Codrington Language Centre was founded in Barbados in 2007, by Sylvia Johnson, a qualified 'English as a Second Language' (ESL) teacher from Birmingham U.K. Its courses are offered to adults from non-English speaking countries.

The Codrington Language Centre was founded in Barbados in 2007, by Sylvia Johnson, a qualified 'English as a Second Language' (ESL) teacher from Birmingham U.K.
Its courses are offered to adults from non-English speaking countries. The programme includes:
- Standard 18+ English Language course
- Intensive 18+ English Language Combination course
- (Intensive) Business English as a Second Language
- Business English Conversation course
- Aviation English โ ICAO
With our daily Grammar and Pronunciation (gp) sheets and Personalised Sentence Analysis (PSA), weekly Revision and pronunciation and personal audio recordings, students leave our programme with a greatly increased command of English grammar and the ability to express themselves confidently. The classes are small (maximum 6), guaranteeing students personalized attention at all times. The courses are designed to ensure that each student receives the maximum training during his or her stay in Barbados, with our fully qualified, friendly and motivated team of teachers. A certificate of participation is presented to each student at the end of the course.
Accommodation comprises homestay or apartment options, which may be booked directly or through our Centre.
The infrastructure on the island is rated very highly and Barbados is considered one of the safest and most vibrant, yet relaxing, islands in the Caribbean. The bus system in Barbados is excellent and affordable, with routes spanning the entire island.
After-class activities include (among others):
- (Scuba) diving
- (Kite) surfing
- Water skiing
The charm, excitement and tranquillity of this beautiful island, with its superb beaches, friendly restaurants and vibrant nightlife, are all enjoyed by our students after class and at weekends.
Students may come to the Centre, individually or in groups, independently or through one of our agencies (see website for details). The Centre is rated Five Star by the agencies and on Google.

I was very satisfied with organising, preparing and managing from your side. All lessons had logical structure and clear program.
As the most valuable, I found listening of dialogs and following interpretation by students in speaking form. It allows usage of English in reported speech that develops student's ability in daily speaking. Students have opportunity to listen records of their speaking with immediate corrections. Even that this approach is very tuff and difficult for students, it brings fast development of their speaking skills.
I liked also very much your approach to teaching grammar. It is done based on homework with explanation sheets and respective exercises. Revision of homework during the lesson next day is a great chance for students to repeat needed grammar with the teacher. On top of that it provided to students personal sentence analyse and sheet with weekly recapitulation of grammar, new vocubulary, pronunciation, new expressions and phrases. Students have summary tests at the end of each week.
I found above described system as very effective and more valuable in comparison with lessons which I had in Europe.
Finally learning English at the Codrington Language Centre and visit of Barbados is ideal solution how to combine vacation with studying. Thank you, I hope that I will come back soon.
