It offers attractive study programs in the field of humanities, historical, social and behavioral sciences.

Flexible and high-quality education

Both, the university and its Faculty of Arts and Letters constantly attempt to improve the quality of education and research. The success of this effort has been repeatedly confirmed by the opinions of students and by the evaluation of an independent Slovak ranking and rating agency ARRA. According to the last published evaluation of all university faculties in Slovakia by the ARRA agency, the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the Catholic University in Ruzomberok is the second best and, from among all the faculties of arts and letters, has the lowest proportion of unemployed graduates. Students are offered a wide variety of study programs and can choose from various courses on up-to-date topics. Moreover, students are able to participate in exchanges at some of our many partner universities abroad.

Personal growth

The university supports the personal growth of its students. Besides education it offers opportunities to learn useful skills, to meet interesting people and to engage in extracurricular activities such as student media (a student magazine, radio and TV station), university theatre ensemble, folk-dance company or sports activities.

Individual approach and family-like atmosphere

At the Faculty of Arts and Letters, students know each other and their professors. There are regular events helping them to meet, for instance, an informal welcome day for the first-year students, departmental parties, Christmas parties, field trips etc. The education is usually realized in smaller groups; therefore, students are able to make faster progress.

Up-to-date university campus

The campus of the university is one of the most modern in Slovakia. It is dominated by a new university library, but there are also well-equipped classrooms and modern dormitories. All the important facilities are located close to the main university building. Therefore, students are able to spend the whole day (attending classes, studying in the library, having coffee in one of the cafes or dining in the university canteen) within the university campus.

Attractive region

The Faculty of Arts and Letters is located in the north of Slovakia, in Ruzomberok. The region offers a wide range of possibilities for enjoyable leisure activities, as it provides many opportunities for relaxation and entertainment. Tourist-oriented visitors will be impressed by the scenic mountainous surroundings which are suitable for weekend hikers as well as experienced climbers. In the vicinity, there is a mountain range of Nizke Tatry, Velka Fatra and also Chocske Vrchy where people can go for hikes of varying difficulty. Attractive thermal pools such as Besenova and Lucky, which operate all year round are just a few kilometers away from Ruzomberok.

Support for international students

At the faculty, we have international students coming mainly from Ukraine, Poland or the Czech Republic who are offered help with their practical issues such as residence permits, etc. International students are provided with courses to learn the Slovak language. Since Slavic languages have a lot in common, these students are usually able to navigate the education process very quickly. Moreover, the adaptation process is easier if students choose to study English or German language for, in that case, most of their classes are in English or German.

Reasonable living expenses

Students coming from the EU countries or countries such as Ukraine, Belarus, Serbia, etc. do not pay the tuition fee for their studies. Accommodation fees in the student dormitories range from 70 to 140 EUR per month based on the number of beds (students staying) in the room. Thus, the total living expenses for a student in Ruzomberok may be around 350 EUR per month. Moreover, the best students receive generous scholarships and there are plenty of opportunities for part-time student jobs in this touristic region.
