Introduction

The Public Health Policy course is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of how federal, state, and local policies shape the health care system, why health policy is important, and how to set policy. Course content is designed to advance understanding of evidence-based policies and practices to address social determinants of health and create health equity for all.

  • Analyze the main components and challenges of the organization, financing and delivery of health care and public health services
  • Evaluate public health policies and programs that promote health and health equity
  • Develop an ability to apply a conceptual framework to understand health care policy processes
  • Discuss the roles of supply and demand in policy making in the health care sector.
