Introduction
The course provides an overview of the evolving global healthcare landscape. The powerful forces of globalization, demographic changes and emerging diseases make the health agenda for the new millennium very challenging.
This course introduces students to global health terminology used in the field in line with the priorities of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Course content is designed to advance the understanding of global health specifically:
- Universal health coverage for sustainable development by 2030: guaranteeing equity and the right to health for all.
- Ongoing global health crises: to save lives and defeat major epidemics.
- Prevention and responses to global health threats: to provide rapid and effective international interventions.
Students explore current global health issues and learn about the Global Health Observatory (GHO), a World Health Organization initiative to share global health data, including statistics by country and information on specific diseases and health measures.
