Master's Program in Management Information

The program is ideal for students that have an educational background in engineering and/or technical programs. Our program builds on those foundations to add a business perspective on advanced technical skills.

The Master of Science in Management Information Systems (MS-MIS) is a rigorous degree program. Our students leave our program with a solid technical information systems foundation and appropriate business skills. Graduates can immediately contribute to solving business problems, which makes them highly valued and respected in the workforce and sought after by top companies.

Curriculum

Students may earn the Master of Science in Management Information Systems (MS-MIS) degree by completing 36 credit hours of business and technical courses. This coursework is divided into five required courses and seven elective courses. Students have the option to complete up to two professional internships.

One credit hour represents approximately one hour of class time per week. Most courses you will take in the MS-MIS program are three credit hours each. Therefore, you would expect that a three-credit hour course would meet for about three hours of instruction each week during the semester.

Prerequisites

Program Prerequisites

The MS-MIS program has four program prerequisites:

• A course in programming (Java, C#, VB, etc. such as ISTM 250 or ISTM 601)
• A database management course (such as ISTM 315 or ISTM 615)
• A course in systems analysis and design (such as ISTM 320 or ISTM 620)
• A course in business data communications (such as ISTM 310 or ISTM 610)

Students may receive admission to the program without having already completed all four prerequisite courses; however, for a student’s application to be the most competitive, the student should have completed at least two of the four courses. We do not accept work experience, corporate training programs/classes, or courses taken through open online course providers as prerequisite credits. Only courses from accredited colleges/universities will be accepted.

Students admitted to the program without all four prerequisites must enroll at Texas A&M University during the summer prior to the start of the program in August to complete any outstanding prerequisites. The prerequisite courses will be offered in an online format, so they can be completed from anywhere. Courses taken at other institutions after the time of admission (either online or in person) will not be accepted for credit. Students will receive additional details about completing prerequisites (if necessary) with their admission offer.

MS-MIS Courses

The MS-MIS degree is a 36-hour, non-thesis graduate program that can be completed in 16 to 21 months. The program also allows for the completion of up to two professional internships.
