Key Summary

About: The Doctor of Podiatric Medicine / Master of Public Health (DPM/MPH) program prepares students for careers in podiatric medicine and public health. Students learn about podiatric care, as well as broader public health issues, equipping them to address health challenges in communities. This program integrates clinical training with public health principles and offers unique interdisciplinary training.
Career Outcomes: Graduates can pursue careers as podiatrists or public health professionals. Potential roles include working in healthcare facilities, community health organizations, and governmental health agencies, contributing to both individual patient care and population health initiatives.

In collaboration with the College of Health Professions and Social Work at Temple University, the School of Podiatric offers a joint program that leads to the Master of Public Health and Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degrees (DPM/MPH). These affiliated-degree programs allow students to earn two advanced degrees in five years.

In health care today, it is important to focus on the whole patient, rather than an isolated medical problem. Serious problems of the foot or lower extremity can adversely affect the overall health and well-being of a patient. Conversely, systemic disease or disorder, such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease, may manifest itself first through potentially serious foot problems. These complex interrelationships demand a DPM, Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, a skilled practitioner educated to detect and treat a variety of related diseases. Students at the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine make a commitment to excellence in podiatry from the first week of orientation through residency. By graduation, students will demonstrate proficiency in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of problems and diseases of the foot, ankle and lower extremity.
