About: The Associate of Science (AS) with a specialization in Chemistry offers foundational knowledge in chemistry and related sciences. This program is designed for students interested in advancing their education or careers in technical or laboratory settings. You'll engage in hands-on laboratory work and theoretical coursework that prepares you for transfer to a four-year degree program or entry-level positions in various industries.
Career Outcomes: Graduates can pursue opportunities as lab technicians, research assistants, or in pharmaceutical and environmental industries. Completing the AS in Chemistry can also be a stepping stone to higher education in chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields.

Introduction

Chemistry is the study of the composition, behavior, structure, and properties of matter. The study of chemistry provides insights that are central to biology, geology, materials science, medicine, environmental science, and many branches of engineering.

The Associate of Science (Track 1) degree is directly transferable to most Washington baccalaureate institutions (four-year colleges and universities). Students who transfer will be granted junior standing upon transfer.

For students who wish to major in chemistry and earn the Associate of Science degree with a Chemistry Specialization (90 credits total), review the degree completion requirements.

While in high school, students should pursue all available courses in mathematics, chemistry, biology, and physics.
