Introduction
Bachelor of Commerce - Liberal Studies
The Bachelor of Commerce (Liberal Studies) complements the professional business related studies and accreditation of the Bachelor of Commerce with additional studies in languages, humanities, and sciences. This four year (full-time) program gives students the opportunity to develop enhanced communication skills and an unrivaled breadth of knowledge from the study in subject areas from both the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Science.
Accreditation
Australian Computer Society (ACS) accreditation
Students planning to satisfy the entry requirements of the ACS should include in their course a prescribed set of units of study, including a major in Business Information Systems.
Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) accreditation
All undergraduate award courses incorporating a major in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management are AHRI-accredited. Students wishing to satisfy the requirements for professional membership of AHRI should include this major in their course.
Curriculum
Course rules
To be awarded the Bachelor of Commerce (Liberal Studies), students must successfully complete a total of 192 credit points, comprising:
- Two compulsory junior units of study (12 credit points)
- At least 24 credit points of units of study from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (Table A subject areas)
- At least 12 credit points of units of study from the Faculty of Science
- Two majors - One selected from the subject areas specified under 'Major I subject areas' and one selected from the subject areas specified under 'Major II subject areas'
- No more than 96 credit points in junior units of study (1000-level)
- At least 108 credit points in units of study from the Business School and School of Economics ( a maximum of 84 credit points in units from other faculties/non-Business School and Economics subject areas)
Please Note: Students who commenced their degree before 2011 may complete their degree under the degree resolutions outlined in the Handbook of the year they commenced their study.
Compulsory junior units of study
Students must complete the following units of study:
- BUSS1001 Understanding Business #
- BUSS1002 The Business Environment #
# In 2012 BUSS1001 will replace ECOF1003 Understanding Business (formerly named Business Contexts A) and BUSS1002 will replace ECOF1004 The Business Environment (formerly named Business Contexts B). Continuing students who have not completed ECOF1003 or ECOF1004 must complete BUSS1001 or BUSS1002 instead.

# The Quantitative Business Analysis major replaces the Operations Management and Decision Sciences major from 2012. Students who commenced study in 2011 can choose to complete either the Quantitative Business Analysis major or the Operations Management and Decision Sciences major.
Additional majors/electives
In addition to the required two majors students may complete additional majors or electives from the Business School or the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Science, Education and Social Work or Agriculture and Environment (subject to course rules and restrictions).
