About

Founded in 1920, Swansea University is an institution with a 100-year heritage. Located just three hours from London by train, Swansea is a well-established university with a long history of prestigious research, academic success, excellent facilities, and high standards of teaching.

At Swansea University, you will become part of an ambitious, research-led institution that houses a truly global community. With staff and students from over 130 countries, you’ll never feel far from home.

Located close to the city centre and on the edge of the stunning Gower Peninsula (the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), Swansea University offers the perfect location to take your next steps towards your future career, in a city that is ranked as the 7th safest in the UK (Complete University Guide 2024).

At Swansea, we carry a warm Welsh welcome with us and a commitment to purposeful, practical research, which makes a positive difference to the world around us. We have a strong record for employability, and we are currently ranked 9th in the UK for the percentage of graduates in sustained employment, further study, or both, one year after graduating (UK Government LEO 2024).

By choosing Swansea, you will be choosing an institution that is dedicated to your success and providing you with the best opportunities possible. As a result, we are currently ranked in the Top 300 Universities in the World (QS World Rankings 2025), and 100% of students surveyed would recommend us (Uni Compare).

Swansea University has two beachfront campuses, located at either end of Swansea’s 5-mile waterfront. Singleton Park Campus is surrounded by mature parkland and botanical gardens, overlooking Swansea Bay beach, while the modern Bay Campus is located right on the beach, on the eastern approach into the city.

Both campuses are within easy reach of the city centre, which is going through an exciting stage of investment and development. Our multicultural campuses boast a diverse community and a relaxed atmosphere that will allow you the space you need to grow and learn.

We benefit from having a range of accommodation open to students on both campuses, with en-suites available, as well as accessible and adapted rooms, and the option to live in single-sex, alcohol-free or quiet halls of residence, as well as those suited to postgraduate and mature students.

If you are living overseas, it might be difficult to view residences in person, so we have some helpful virtual tours available on our website. You can find more information on our website under Accommodation.

At Swansea, we provide a range of scholarships to help you with the cost of going to university, which are available at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and you can benefit from a relatively low cost of living.

The cost of rent, food, and entertainment in Swansea is lower than it is in many larger UK cities, so you may find that your budget stretches further. Rent in Swansea is on average 64% lower than in London and on average 17.6% lower than in Cardiff.

Excellence Scholarships of up to £7,000 are available, and there is a wide range of additional scholarships and bursaries, which acknowledge academic, sporting, and musical talents.
