Welcome to Sunway University — one of Malaysia’s premier private institutions, committed to delivering quality education as a not-for-profit university. With a strong focus on supporting enterprise and advancing research that addresses pressing global challenges, Sunway stands as a hub of innovation and impact. In a vibrant green township developed on restored tin-mining land, the university enjoys a strategic location just west of Kuala Lumpur, in the heart of the Klang Valley.
Although relatively young on the global stage, Sunway University has quickly risen in prominence. It is ranked among the top 2% of universities worldwide and the top 1.5% in Asia, and has secured a place among the top 150 young universities under 50 years old — a testament to its rapid growth and academic excellence.
Founded in 2004 as Sunway University and granted full university status in 2011, Sunway University is a not-for-profit institution governed by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation. Located in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya (part of Sunway City near Kuala Lumpur), it occupies an 8.9-hectare campus intricately connected to local amenities and designed as a sustainable “15-minute city.” Its commitment to holistic quality education is built on core values of Integrity, Humility, and Excellence, aimed at nurturing well-rounded individuals with a global outlook.
Sunway offers a broad spectrum of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across six schools, including Business, Arts & Humanities, Engineering & Technology, Mathematical Sciences, Hospitality & Service Management, and Medical & Life Sciences. It maintains longstanding collaborations with institutions like Lancaster University and Le Cordon Bleu, allowing students to earn dual degrees, and has affiliations with Harvard Medical School and both Cambridge and Oxford through prestigious fellowships. Research efforts focus on planetary health, sustainability, emerging technologies, and cross-disciplinary innovation led through institutes such as the Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development and Sunway iLabs.

Sunway University is conveniently located near the heart of Sunway City, one of Malaysia’s greenest, safest and most sustainable cities on the periphery of Kuala Lumpur.
Our campus is easily accessible via the bus rapid transit, free shuttle bus and the green canopy walkways from around Sunway City. We welcome visitors and potential students to come and look around. Many areas are open to the public, and we often hold events open to the community, such as distinguished speakers’ series, exhibitions, and music performances, many of which are free. The university library is accessible to the public for a nominal subscription fee.
