Networking
Throughout the semester, attend community-building events to meet your peers and future colleagues in our community—both within your program and in other programs. Network, learn about campus opportunities, and build social networks and connections through fun activities and snacks at our Golden Bear Center. Always free and fun, these events are an opportunity to make connections that stick. Examples of past events include Silicon Valley Trivia and Pizza Night, a Fall Photo Contest, and Potluck.

Core Courses
The curriculum comprises five core courses, totaling 9 semester units (135 hours of instruction). To earn your certificate, you must take all courses for a letter grade and earn a grade of C or better in each course.
Introduction to Data Analytics
Formulate and apply descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to guide decision-making in various industries. Learn and practice to think critically with data and generate actionable insights.
Data Visualization
Learn theoretical and practical elements to support a holistic approach to understanding data visualization. Explore techniques to create compelling stories and practice using modern tools to create visualizations using R, Python, D3, and Tableau.
Python for Data Analysis
Build your experience with statistical analysis using the Python programming language to make the analysis more powerful and able to analyze large datasets. This course is intended for those who are new or have limited programming experience but have an interest in building on their statistical skills as data analysts.
Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence
Gain an understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and SQL to explore the concepts, frameworks, and best practices for designing on-premises and cloud-based data warehousing solutions. Get an overview of cloud computing and its main concepts by utilizing cloud computing platforms.
Data Analytics Capstone
Complete your own data analytics project that centers on a real-world problem to add to your portfolio of work. Demonstrate knowledge of data analytics methods and techniques by planning, exploring, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting findings through collaboration and problem-solving that promote applied, experiential learning.
- Use data wrangling and exploration methods to find meaning and patterns in structured data sets.
- Create descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive models for knowledge discovery with structured data sets.
- Perform decision analysis using optimization methods, operational research, management science, and spreadsheet analytics.
- Interpret results and use data visualization techniques to communicate findings to stakeholders.
Envision Your Semester
You'll take classes Monday through Thursday. Each meeting is 2–3 hours at our Golden Bear Center, just a few minutes walk away from the UC Berkeley campus.
Courses in this program are split into two sessions, as skills and knowledge developed in some courses build on concepts introduced in other courses. Exact schedules are shared with admitted students before the semester starts, but you can see a sample weekly schedule below:
