Introduction

The midwife meets the start of life and is close to the woman giving birth and the new family. But the independent and exciting work with the whole world as a field of work is not just about maternity care.

The midwife's work is preventive and aims to promote health and target the woman and her family at all stages of life, the newborn baby and adolescents. Women's sexual and reproductive health is a large area where the midwife has a stimulating field of work that includes pregnancy, childbirth and aftercare, but also gynecology, abortion activities and contraceptive counseling. The midwifery profession is independent and requires a high level of competence in order to be able to provide safe and secure care. In preparation, the education contains theoretical and practical sections with a focus on both uncomplicated and more complicated processes.
