Key Summary

About : The LLM International Commercial and Economic Law equips students with advanced knowledge in international trade, commercial law, and economic law. This postgraduate degree aims to provide a deep understanding of complex legal issues faced in global commerce. The course typically runs for one year full-time or two years part-time and blends theoretical learning with practical applications.
Career Outcomes : Graduates can pursue careers in various fields including international trade, corporate law, compliance, and dispute resolution. Potential roles may include legal advisor, corporate counsel, trade specialist, or consultant in international organizations and law firms.

The LLM International Commercial and Economic Law provides doctrinal and theoretical training grounded in transnational, comparative and socio-legal perspectives with a distinctive focus on legal developments in the Global South. Students study how law regulates global markets, corporate power and cross-border economic activity — including investment, trade, finance and dispute resolution — with particular emphasis on international arbitration and transnational dispute settlement. The programme is interdisciplinary and professionally oriented, combining theoretical foundations with practical, skills-based learning. Students must complete 180 credits (60-credit dissertation and 120 credits of taught modules). The programme can form part of a dual LLM degree with partner universities and postgraduate students may participate in SOAS study tours (examples listed include New Delhi, Lahore, Seoul, Luang Prabang, Almaty, Bishkek, Kigali, Johannesburg and Doha). The LLM is restricted to applicants who hold a UK law degree or international equivalent.
