SMSU accepts up to nine transfer credits, and a background in education is not required to apply.

Emphasis options include technology, reading, TESL, sports leadership, English, mathematics, and teaching, learning, and leadership. Students who pursue the Reading and TESL specialties graduate with Minnesota licensure in these areas.
